F.A.Q.

Please bring the following documents with you for each child you wish to enroll:

- Birth certificate (For age verification)
- Social Security card [Social Security Card is not required, as per Federal guidance]
- Two proofs of residence
- One of these must be a recent utility bill with your Baldwin County address.
- Withdrawal papers from last school attended, including transcript
- Immunization form
- All students are required by Alabama State Law to have an original certificate of immunization (IMM-50); copies are unacceptable. These certificates may be obtained from your local physician or Baldwin County Health Department in Robertsdale. The Health Department may be reached at 251.947.1910.

You will be required to complete an enrollment form for each student. These will be made available by the registrar or counselor when you visit the school.

- While school is in session, the office is open from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm each day. Summer office hours are Monday through Thursday, from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

7:00 A.M. The office is staffed

7:15 A.M. Students may arrive at school / breakfast begins

7:45 A.M. Start of school bell / Morning assembly in gym

7:55 A.M. Tardy bell - Caregivers must sign students in through the office

• Stapleton School hours are 7:45 am to 2:50 pm. Students are considered tardy if they are not in their classroom when the 7:55 tardy bell rings.

- We offer healthy and nutritious snacks and drinks from our canteen.  Students in kindergarten through 6^th grade are able to purchase snacks daily.  Items we offer are sold for $.50 to help ensure their affordability for our families. We also have ice cream for $1.00.

- Legal guardians must see office personnel in person to add or subtract individuals to the list of those authorized to check out their student(s).  If the legal guardian cannot come to the office or needs to make a last minute change, the office will require proof of the guardian’s identity, such as a phone call / email to the number / email address on record for the guardian.

- In order to ensure an orderly and safe dismissal time, there will be no early dismissals after 2:30 without permission of the principal.  No changes in afternoon transportation will be taken over the phone after 2:30 p.m.  Students must be checked out though the office.  Picture I.D. is required and only adults on the list of authorized individuals will be allowed to check out a child. 

- Chronic absenteeism is a primary cause of low academic achievement and a powerful predictor of students who may eventually drop out of school. 

-- Chronic = 17 absences (10% of school year; 173 days)

-- Warning Signs = 10-16 absences

-- Satisfactory Attendance = 9 or fewer

       - Preliminary data from a California study found that children who were chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of 3rd grade.

- Missing 10 percent of school for ANY reason, excused or unexcused, is proven to negatively impact future graduation rates.

Medications at School General Guidelines

It is the policy of the Baldwin County Public Schools that the registered professional school nurse be responsible for medication administration in the school setting. The primary intent is to administer medication to students diagnosed with chronic medical conditions.

The school system encourages parents to give medication taken one to three times a day to be given at home to prevent disruption of the student's learning. For example, when a student has medication ordered daily, the medication should be given at home. Medications prescribed three times a day should be given at home, just before leaving school, upon returning home in the afternoon, and at bedtime. The only exception to this schedule is medication that must be given before or with meals. Parents must administer the first dose of the medication. Exception: in the case of need for emergency drugs such as Diastat and Glucagon.

Over-the-counter medication is permissible but discouraged. The school nurse may administer over-the- counter medication without a physician’s authorization. Parent/guardian permission is required for over-the-counter medication. The medication must meet all guidelines as outlined in the State Department of Education’s Medication Curriculum.

In the event of an emergency involving medication, the school will handle the problem like any other medical emergency.
